The International Democratic Union has suffered a string of major terror attacks in the past 24-hours, with thousands confirmed dead and thousands more maimed in what is being deemed the largest and deadliest act of terror in modern history. Several countries have been hit by terror acts include Vulkaria, Zamastan, Laeral, Democratic Republic of Eiria, Legionas, Libertas Omnium Maximus, Shuell, Great Shen, Gardavasque, Xiomera, Byzconia, and DeBeeland. The attacks have all been claimed by the Malvarian Liberation Front in a released 23-minute video message, where their leader, Van’a Kamoni, declares that they “bring justice and death to the corrupt nations that uphold the Vulkarian government and their falsified deities of poverty and partitions”.

In Zamastan, three bombs were detonated at Tofino International Airport, killing 28 people, injuring upwards of 50, and destroying a facade at the International Arrivals carport. Elsewhere in Tofino, a truck loaded with explosives erupted in a massive detonation outside of a theater in the popular downtown Waterway District, killing 19 people and injuring hundreds. The police offices of the Waterway District’s precinct were also the target of a suicide bombing, where a man detonated his vest in the lobby of the offices, killing 12. Two underground subway metro stations were also bombed, killing 41 people at Maple Avenue Station A and killing 18 people at Ciron Avenue Station F.

In the Zamastanian city of Providence, Thato D’vini, a popular restaurant, was the site of a suicide bombing, resulting in 5 deaths and several injuries. 2 people were killed when a bomb detonated in a garbage can on Providence’s famed Walken’s Pier. A subway system within Providence was also bombed, though the explosion caused no fatalities and two passengers were only slightly injured and are expected to be making full recoveries.

The transport hubs of Tofino were a major target, as evidenced by the bombings at the Tofino International Airport and the rail systems. Zamastanian authorities have announced a state of emergency, have shut down rail systems and coastal international airports, and have issued a curfew for the Administrative Districts of Zian and Northern Isle.

125 people have been killed in Zamastan. Any foreign fatalities are yet to be disclosed by the Zamastanian government.

Attacks on Foreign and Domestic Sites in Vulkaria

Within Vulkaria, numerous sites belonging to the government and diplomatic international sites were struck by terrorist insurgents. Vulkar’s International Airport was hit with rocket propelled grenades, obliterating terminal windows and damaging airplanes on the tarmac. 34 people were killed at the airport. The Presidential Mansion in Vulkar was struck by two car bombs and a squad of gunmen. 62 people were killed in the attack. Vulkarian President Farhen Brooks was present at the Mansion but is safe. Suicide bombs were also detonated at three apartment blocks and a shopping center, killing an additional 340 people.

A school sponsored by Byzconia was struck with a suicide bombing, resulting in the deaths of two Byzconian teachers and three Vulkarian students. Seven students were also injured in the attack. The school is sponsored by Byzconia’s foreign teachers program, and the Byzconian staff had just transitioned to the school a few weeks prior to the start of the new year.

Several embassies in the capital city of Vulkar were hit by attackers. The Shuell Embassy was the site of a suicide bombing in the lobby of the complex which killed 9 people and injured 17. Security had spotted a suspicious individual entering the building and attempted to stop him. It was at that moment that he detonated his suicide vest.

The Embassy of the Shen Empire in Vulkar was hit with a car bomb, which detonated at the front lobby gates of the Embassy. The Shen diplomats were unloading crates of fireworks to be used in a celebration of the Shen New Year, and the combination of the car explosion and the fireworks created a massive blast that devastated much of the building’s front facade. 40 people are confirmed dead, and over 200 were injured.

Image
Above: Vulkarian rescue workers fight blazes at the Shen Embassy in Vulkar following a massive explosion.

The Embassy belonging to Libertas Omnium Maximus was attacked by upwards of 20 gunmen affiliated with the M.L.F. terrorist group. They detonated a car bomb which killed 4 civilians, 2 security officers, and a Maximusian marine. An ensuing gunfight occured, and the terrorists attempted to storm the embassy. Maxmusian marines and embassy staff fought back and halted much of the terrorist progression. By the time Vulkarian security forces arrived and eliminated the remaining terrorists, an additional 4 marines were killed.

In the waterways surrounding Vulkaria, numerous attacks unfolded. The LNS Celeste, a Nanhai-class frigate in the Laeralian Navy, was rammed by a speedboat full of explosives while passing through the Strait of Vulkaria near Vissengin. 16 sailors were killed and 26 injured in what was the deadliest-ever attack on a Laeralian Navy vessel in peacetime.

A few miles behind the Laeralian warship, a Zamastanian cargo vessel, the ZNSV Tarrian Star was also struck with an explosive-laden speedboat, killing 5 sailors and grounding the ship on the rocky shoreline.

Attacks In Eiria, Libertas Omnium Maximus, Legionas, Gardavasque, Xiomera, and DeBeeland

Terrorists also struck within the territories of several other nations. In Eiria, a bomb was detonated at the Central Merēta Convention Center. Authorities say that 56 people were killed, and that the 213 injured have been transported to hospitals. The victims were attending a conference of the Krastālen Province Board of Doctors.

In downtown Lumeniola, Libertas Omnium Maximus, a bomb exploded in the stands of a spectator area at a heavily packed concert. 22 people were killed, and a further 120 were injured. Pop/country singer Hazel Massy, who was performing at the concert, was unhurt and released a statement on her social media wishing “swift recoveries for the injured and condolences for the perished.”

In Verdesia, Legionas, terrorists began firing on civilians and commited suicide bombings at the a five star Gran Verdesia hotel near the Palace of Verdesia and the Museum nearby. The attack claimed hundreds of lives, with reports confirming 503 dead and well over a thousand wounded. The attack in Legionas was the deadliest attack of the day, and is Legionas’ most deadly terror attack in the nation’s modern history. Legionas security forces engaged terrorists at multiple occasions during the attack, suffering losses alongside civilian casualties.

Image
Above: Legionas Security Forces respond to a bombing and shooting at the Gran Verdesia hotel.

In Gardavasque, a car bomb detonated aboard the Ferry MV Genevieve on route from the Gardavascan city of Mercy to Eternity, approximately 10 kilometers off shore in the Deep Blue Sea. Currently, officials put the death toll at 248, with 14 people missing and presumed dead. 311 people were hospitalized, and 47 of the hospitalized remain in critical condition. Among the dead, 14 are children and 12 are seniors. The youngest is 3 months; oldest 101.

Gardavasque's fleet of Ferries is credited with being efficient, safe, and extremely easy to use, having been seamlessly integrated into the metro transit systems of the various cities it serves. There have been few injuries and no fatalities for nearly 75 years of operation, as thus, safety regulations are relatively relaxed and hassle-free compared to air travel. An unidentified official said that “few could have anticipated an attack from a foreign terrorist organization, as Vulkaria and Zamastan seem so far away.”

Image
Above: A Gardavasque naval helicopter rescuing a woman from the MV Genevieve, which sunk after a car bomb detonated inside the ship’s vehicle port.

In Huitzitaca, Xiomera, the Coytōchte Corporation Headquarters Complex was the target of a car bombing, with the government of Xiomera stating that there were 7 fatalities and 26 injuries. The Coytōchte Corporation is a PMC providing training to the Vulkarians under contract from the Vulkarian government and the Xiomeran government. Their operations across the world have been condemned by the Zamastanian government over their role in the 1991 Bjeorg Conflict, but the Vulkarian government has welcomed Xiomeran training for anti-terrorism groups. The attack in Xiomera was likely in response to the PMC programs, say Zamastanian intelligence officials.

In the nation of DeBeeland, reports came in of bombing at a remote and unguarded weather/scientific research station occupied by members of a DeBeeland research team. It is unknown but speculated that this attack was also perpetrated by the M.L.F.

The location of the attack on Bellow Island, south of the main DeBeeland island. A team of five DeBeelandians were assigned to the station: one was reportedly killed instantly, one died in transit to the mainland after being severely injured; two received minor injuries, and one was not present at the station (elsewhere on the island checking instruments) when the blast occurred.

World Leaders React To Terror Attacks

Following the attacks, a preliminary casualty toll is staggering. Thousands have been injured, and 1,485 people have been confirmed killed. Legionas and Gardavasque suffered two of the single deadliest attacks in their nation’s history, making over half of the day’s total casualties with a combined 751 confirmed dead. That number is expected to rise, according to government officials. World leaders banded together in solidarity and condolences, while promising to act against the terror and some calling out the M.L.F. directly in condemnation.

President Snollygoster of Gardavasque made a statement following the attacks in his manner of aggressiveness, saying ““Today we were confronted with the fact that we have suspected for a long time. Many other nations in the IDU hate us because of our prosperous economy, abundant freedoms, and our beautiful beautiful people. That is why they tried to drown the Gardavascan Dream into our hardly polluted waters and scare us off the world stage. Well, I’m not going to let that happen to this great country of ours. Today I’m announcing suspensions of certain civil rights protections for foreigners. Until we can figure out who is behind these terrible acts, I have no choice but to protect the people through temporary internment of all Vulkarians in the country. They will try to say this is unconstitutional. But that has never stopped us before. Until we can figure out who did this, there will be a 500% tariff on all Vulkarian imports and I’m ordering Gardavascan banks to freeze the accounts of any criminals we find from Vulkaria. To borrow a phrase from another fine strong country that knows how to deal with terrorists, ‘ Gardavasque stands strong.’ God bless me, and God bless the Social Democracy of Gardavasque.”

DeBeeland President Aaron DeBee made a statement saying that "an investigation has been launched at this time to determine the details of the attack. Once all the available information has been gathered and processed, the government of the Free Land of DeBeeland will agree on the best course of action. Until then, all personnel assigned to remote locations have been recalled, and national security protocols have been activated for the main island. A national address will follow as the situation unfolds. For now, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of those lost and injured."

Shuellian Director of International Affairs Hoffman said “This attack was a tragedy, and proves that the MLF must be destroyed in order to assure world security. Once again, leftist terror groups strike at Shuell, for they know that we are righteous.”

Eirian Chancellor William Lancaster spoke on the attacks from his residence, saying, "We are Horrified about the attack at the Merēta Convention Center. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of victims, and we wish those injured a steady recovery. In addition, we are going to ramp up our efforts against terrorism. The M.L.F. and T.A.L.F.L. have taken too many lives. That changes now!"

Empress Yauhmi spoke following the attack, saying "If the M.L.F. was seeking the attention of the Xiomeran Empire through this cowardly act of terrorism, they have indeed gained our attention. But they will soon learn - painfully and decisively - why they were so much better off not being on our radar as a threat."

Prime Minister Eileen Estrada of Byzconia said, “Today, our teaching mission in Vulkaria was ruthlessly attacked by the terrorist group known as the Malvarian Liberation Front. Two Byzconian teachers were killed in the attack, along with three Vulkarian students. Seven more are being treated for injuries. Our hearts go out to all of those who lost loved ones. This attack was brazen, cruel, and cowardly and cannot be allowed to go unanswered. We will be working with the Vulkarian government in whatever capacity we can to aid in bringing the perpetrators of this attack to justice. These schools exist solely to aid the poor and downtrodden, the very people the M.L.F. claims to fight for. They have no weapons, no means of defense. This attack was nothing more than cold-blooded murder."

PM Moretti Commended for Response

Prime Minister Nicholas Moretti of Legionas made statements following the attacks, which are the deadliest ever to occur on Legionas soil.

“My fellow Legionites. First of all, I would like to directly address those of you who have lost a loved one. Today is a dark day in our history. A day of shock. Of sadness. Of grief. Of anger. But amidst all of this unfathomable pain, I understand that you also carry happy memories. Of a conversation, a smile, a look, a hug. All of the things that formed your love, and that now make you miss that person so much. But that also, in all of the darkness, can help us to celebrate life, because it has given us such wonderful people to love. As former Prime Minister Gregory Morrison once said, 'There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning.'

I hope that those of you who are grieving, those who were injured, those who bear the wounds of today day, feel the love, support and solidarity from an entire nation, and not least from all of us gathered here today. We are here for you. You are not alone.

We are also here to pay tribute to all of those who responded when the disaster called for you to act. All of you who gave up your free time, worked an extra shift and demonstrated love for your society. You, the rescue workers, who put yourselves in harm's way to help as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. You, the police officers, who worked tirelessly to protect people and catch the perpetrators, but who also took the time to comfort people and explain what was going on. You, the medical staff, who worked long shifts, side by side, to provide the best care a modern society can offer. You, the volunteers, who revealed the hero in you. You have shown us the meaning of duty, sacrifice and courage. I see you as fantastic role models for our young people, and as a reason to be proud of our nation.

And one thing I will remember clearly from today is this: Faced with this horrific, meaningless, fanatical hatred, there were so many people who chose to show such great empathy for each other. Who held in their arms a despairing stranger. Who offered to collect their neighbour's children. Who said: We may not know each other, but I'm here if you need me. Let us never forget this, when the history of our time is written. When our society was at its most fragile, that's when our sense of community was at its strongest.

Today, I believe we have grown more resilient as a nation. Faced with this attack on our own soil, we have felt it firsthand the animosity of the Malvarian Liberation Front. They have sparked our full and unrelenting fury as a nation today. Our Patriotism and Revanchism is in full force. We will make them pay for the blood of our comrades, our friends, family, colleagues, neighbours. Today will be a day that will live in infamy in our history and our hearts. But remember this, my fellow citizens. We will endure.

No one has and ever will be able to extinguish the fire of a Legionite: the fire that has led our souls for centuries. The M.L.F. may have won the battle, but they have lost the war. We stand together in solidarity with the other nations of the IDU which have had to deal with this atrocity in their own soil.

Together we will prevail. In spite of today's events, our spirit will always shine a light on our paths. And today, let us remember those who died and let us celebrate those who helped, safe in the knowledge that the terrorists will never win – and our values, our country and our way of life will always prevail.”

President Brooks Responds Forcefully

Vulkarian President Farhen Brooks, who is safe following the attack on Vulkar’s Presidential Mansion, made a statement from a safehouse in Amstelveen, saying “The terror and horror of the Malvarian evil-doers is despicable. Horrendous. I want to first express my deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and I wish a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured. I reaffirm that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.

There is a dire need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice, and I urge all nations affected by today’s events, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of Vulkaria and all other relevant authorities in this regard.

Any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed. Today, however, will be forever remembered in history. This is reprehensible. We will have justice for our fallen countrymen. We will destroy this threat once and for all.”
President Sakzi Promises Retaliation
Image
Above: President Sakzi speaks following the January 2nd, 2020 attacks

President Foley Sakzi of Zamastan stood defiant and resolute in front of Congressional Hall with Speaker of the Chamber Larious Maxwell and Secretary of Defense Curtis Fondaden at his side.

“My fellow Zamastanians, today we have witnessed the depravity and horror of cowardice. Not just us, but our allies, the entire world, has witnessed what we’ve witnessed time and time again. Terrorists struck at our hearts and minds, but among the blood and destruction and despair, we saw the best of humanity and bravery. First responders rushed into collapsed subway tunnels and through broken glass and metal shards to save lives of the maimed. Bystanders shook by explosions still rejected their own safety in order to bring others to theirs.

As for those who are lost, you are not forgotten. That goes for every Zamastanian, Vulkarian, Maximusian, Laeralian, Legionite, Gardavasqian and Eirian, and for every country that lost a life because of terror, we are with you. As for your families, we are with you and pray for you. We will forever support you. We will never, ever forget you.

Terror has no place in our world. Terror should not be allowed to continue, here or abroad. We will hunt down those responsible and bring them to justice.”

President Sakzi also announced his and Congress’s decision to assist Vulkaria.

“We are going to be shifting our focus from just aiding to a more direct combat role in Vulkaria. At the request of President Brooks and the Vulkarian Parliament, we will be sending additional forces within the week. To determine how many to send will be at the digression of the Senate and our armed forces. Soldiers stationed in Vulkaria currently will be taking on combat roles whenever our commanders of our forces deem it necessary.”

Amidst concerns of possibly being bogged down into another “endless” war, Sakzi reiterated his resolve.

“This isn’t just to push them (M.L.A. and V.N.A.) back and contain them. This is to destroy them completely. Our new mission is to kill or capture every member of the terrorist groups in Vulkaria, to destroy their ability to wage conflict, and to protect and defend the people of Vulkaria who have been living in fear for almost 4 decades. We will have a relentless coalition. We will have complete victory that we were not able to achieve before. We will win this fight for Vulkaria, for Zamastan, and for the rest of the International Democratic Union.”

ZAMASTAN SENDS ADDITIONAL 60,000 TROOPS TO VULKARIA
ESCALATION COMES AFTER 1,485 PEOPLE KILLED IN TERROR ATTACKS
Image
Above: Enemy-controlled areas of Northwest Vulkaria, which is believed to be the target of new troop deployments

60,000 Zamastanian soldiers are being sent to Vulkaria in the wake of the deadly terror attacks claimed by the Malvarian Liberation Front on Thursday which have claimed 1,485 lives and thousands of injuries in 9 countries. President Sakzi has announced that their roles will be shifting away from the "aiding and observing" policies of the past 15 years and will go towards a more direct role. The increase in troops is expected to coordinate efforts with the Vulkarian government and Coalition forces that will be joining them on the ground, including 17,200 Maximusian, 20,000 Shen, 18,000 Eirian, and 11,500 Shuellian troops. More coalition forces are expected to join the present mass of troops in coming days as governments react to today's attacks.

Troops will mainly be deployed in the cities of Vulkar, Godenia, and Lacarno as staging areas for an assault into enemy controlled territory. General Avery Reynolds, the Commander of Coalition Forces in Vulkaria, said that the "troop increase is meant to be first and foremost a reassurance for the people of Vulkaria, but secondly, it will be a force against terrorism."

Other deployments across the IDU may follow, including to the Holish Islands. Defense Secretary Curtis Fondaden “intends to make changes” to the number of troops deployed in the region. Other officials said options under consideration could send between 5,000 and 7,000 troops to the Holish Islands, but they all stressed that there have been no final decisions yet. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

The troop deliberations follow several decisions since spring to beef up the Zamastanian presence in Vulkaria because of a series of attacks and bombings on coalition forces, but Thursday's attacks reinforced the needs for the troop deployments

President Foley Sakzi has approved those increases, saying that the region is less safe and stable today and has sponsored the terrorism that spread across the IDU. “The single greatest mistake our country made in its history,” he said, “was not stopping the terrorists for good when we had the chance. This time, we'll do it for good.”

BRYN MATTEO KILLED IN ZAMASTANIAN OPERATION
Matteo Was A High-Ranking M.L.F. Commander
Image
Above: A Zamastanian helicopter flies above the M.L.F. controlled Sangra Valley, which is north of Lacarno, a major staging point for Coalition Forces

President Foley Sakzi announced on Saturday that Zamastanian special forces had undertaken an operation that killed Bryn Matteo, a high-ranking Malvarian Liberation Front commander who was believed to be behind the 2017 Tofino Attacks and participated with the coordination of the January 2nd Attacks that killed over 1,485 people.

"I can say with certainty and conclusion today," Sakzi stated in his press announcement, "that a team of our Special Forces has killed Bryn Matteo, a M.L.F. commander known as a crucial part of the group's command structure, the coordinator of and one of the perpetrators behind the 2017 Tofino Attacks. Matteo also was crucial to the planning of the January 2nd Attacks, and was known as one of the Malvarian Liberation Front's main recruiters and trainers. He was third in command of the terrorist group, and was planning many more attacks across the IDU and Vulkaria. Now, he is dead."

A ten-man strike team landed at an isolated compound in the Sangra Valley north of Lacarno and south of Masenma, the latter of which is a stronghold for the insurgent forces. The team breached the compound and eliminated five terrorists, one of whom was identified as Matteo. The team suffered no casualties, and also obtained documents deemed sensitive to enemy movements and programming in the region. A woman and child, believed to be the spouse and child of one of the enemy combatants killed, were taken into custody.

Matteo was a lead recruiter for the Malvarian Liberation Front, responsible for committing foreign and Vulkarian nationals to the terror group as cadets. He ran much of the group's underground social media platforms, and also was one of the publishers of the group's propaganda machine. He was considered to be the third-in-command of the M.L.F., making him the highest ranking terror affiliate to be taken out since Samuel Kannit's death in a 2006 raid.

"This is a good day for the Coalition forces as we prepare for the complete destruction and tear-down of the rebellious, deceitful and malicious terror groups in Northwest Vulkaria," Sakzi said.

A Coalition offensive is expected to begin in the coming days against insurgent forces.

XIOMERAN FORCES KILL DIRE SULSI
Sulsi Was A High-Ranking M.L.F. Commander, and His Killing Comes 2 Days After Bryn Matteo's Death
Image
Above: Xiomeran Jaguar Warriors at a checkpoint in Godenia, Vulkaria

Xiomeran forces under supervision of Zamastanian intelligence teams made contact with and killed Malvarian Liberation Front affiliated commander Dire Sulsi in a night-time raid near the Vulkarian city of Firnstead, about twenty miles north of Godenia. Sulsi is believed to have been behind numerous terror attacks throughout the past decade, including attacks in Lauchenoiria, Zamastan, and Legionas. Sulsi also is believed to have been the mastermind of the car bombing at the Coytōchte Corporation Headquarters Complex on January 2nd.

Zamastanian intelligence located Sulsi in a compound west of Firnstead, but because of troop placement centered mostly in Vulkar and Lacarno, Zamastanian troops were not able to reach the target without a high risk of detection. In a rare show of good faith and cooperation, the information was opted to be sent to a Xiomeran contingent known as Jaguar Warriors operating in Godenia along coalition forces, according to Zamastanian authorities. A Xiomeran strike team landed near the compound and eliminated upwards of a dozen terrorists, cornered Sulsi and gave the option for his surrender. Officials say Sulsi attempted to fight back, at which point the Xiomeran forces executed a coalition approval to kill the target. Sulsi's body was transported back to a Xiomeran controlled checkpoint. One Xiomeran sustained injuries.

Empress Yauhmi announced the death of Sulsi at the Palace of Flowers in Tlālacuetztla, saying that "Jaguar Warriors have delivered justice to the man who was responsible for planning the recent terrorist attack in Huitzitaca."

President Sakzi expressed his congratulations to the Xiomeran forces in a rare statement of positive face for a nation he has been at odds with for the near entirety of his political year and already most of his two-month Presidency.

"Congratulations are in order for the Jaguar Warriors of the Xiomeran Armed Forces, who have taken provided intelligence from our intelligence agencies and have neutralized Dire Sulsi. I'm pleased to see this example of cooperation between our two nations pay off in a way that is proven to be beneficial to every party involved. Every party, except the M.L.F., of course."

Xiomeran troops are operating in relatively small numbers in Vulkaria, and they have been since the end of the Second War in Vulkaria (2005) as training forces and arms suppliers at the request of the Vulkarian government. Zamastan has historically pressured the Vulkarian government to allow more Zamastanian training in exchange for lessened Xiomeran influence, but Xiomera has been able to maintain its small presence in the country.

Conspiracy theorists in Zamastan and in several nations where people are less than excitable about Xiomera's international influence have tried to paint a picture of their involvement throughout the years in Vulkaria as an attempt to breach into their politics directly and manipulate legislation or executive actions. Despite Sakzi's harsh narratives surrounding Xiomera in the crises in the South Xiomera Sea and around the XIN Journalists who sought asylum in Zamastan, the President has stayed mostly reserved in suggestions of tampering in elections, saying that it is "preposterous to think that Xiomerans would want to manipulate opinion politically in a nation so staunchly reliant on Zamastan and Cadair for protection."

COALITION FORCES FACE STIFF RESISTANCE IN THE CITY OF FREEBORN
Zamastanian, Maximusian, and Shen troops began their assault on the insurgent-controlled city
Image
Above: Zamastanian troops engage enemy fighters in Freeborn, Vulkaria

A long-awaited offensive to seize back Freeborn after two years of Malvarian Liberation Front control has begun with columns of armor and military starting to move on the northwestern Vulkarian city.

The start of the offensive, which has been weeks in the planning, was announced in an address on state television by Vulkarian President Farhen Brooks in the early hours of Monday morning.

Brooks said: “We have been battling the M.L.F. for more than two years. We started fighting M.L.F. in the outskirts of Vulkar and Amstelveen, and thank God we are now fighting them in the outskirts of Freeborn, and God willing the decisive battle will be soon.

“These forces that are liberating you today, they have one goal in Freeborn which is to get rid of the M.L.F. and to secure your dignity. They are there for your sake,” he said.

After a several-day-long buildup, the first vulnurable urban stronghold of Malvarian Liberation Front has for several days been almost completely flanked to the east by a 30,000-strong force.

On Monday morning just before dawn, columns of Zamastanian soldiers could be seen lined up for the offensive to the north-east of the city. The forces had taken control of seven villages and the main road linking Freeborn with the capital of Vulkar, Vulkaria's state-run news agency reported.

Soldiers had earlier stood by bonfires singing battle hymns while in the distance the sound of airstrikes reverberated along with a regularly artillery barrage.

The assault is expected the most critical challenge yet to the terror group's regional control of Northwest Vulkaria.

Victory over the M.L.F. appears very likely as three separate armies line up for the offensive, but there are concerns about what comes next: how to provide for up to 1.3 million refugees and how to re-establish governance in a region brutalized by tyranny.

South of the city, Libertas Omnium Maximusian forces, which had driven dozens of miles for what Vulkar has hailed as a battle marking the beginning of the end against the terrorist group, moved into their final positions on Friday.

Also on the ground are contingents of the Shen Red Army, which will play a prominent role in capturing key intersections north of Freeborn and stopping M.L.F. fighters from leaving the city.

Skirmishes have flared outside the city over the last few days with an airstrike on one of its main bridges on Sunday. It is thought that the targeting of the bridge could hinder fighters trying to flee the city.

Early on Monday, a dense, noxious haze hung over the mountains and the plains leading to Freeborn – a haze caused by oil fires lit by M.L.F. in anticipation of the attack.

The fight is expected to last days, if not weeks, and if the battle proceeds according to the coalition's expectations, it will clear the way for a larger assault onto multiple cities across Northwestern Vulkaria controlled by militias.

FREEBORN CAPTURED
Zamastanian, Maximusian captured the first M.L.F. controlled city. Insurgents cut off by Shen forces

Zamastanian and Coalition forces have secured the city of Freeborn, the first step in regaining territory from the Malvarian Liberation Front and Vulkarian National Army terrorist and insurgent groups that have controlled Northwestern Vulkaria for over two years.

Zamastanian forces seized the city center of Freeborn, Landrie Square, after a four hour battle which saw Zamastanian and Libertas Omnium Maximus forces detroying the city's defenses in the form of anti-aircraft weaponry and terrorist munitions stockpiles. The Department of Defense confirmed that there were multiple casualties on the Zamastanian side of the battle, including at least four men killed and upwards of a dozen injured. Maximusian officials have not released casualty details as of yet, though the Commander of the Coalition Forces, General Avery Reynolds, has said that the Maximusians faced similar resistance on their side of the battlefield.

Hundreds of enemy fighters were killed in the battle for the city, and General Reynolds has confirmed that small pockets of resistance remain in the city. Coalition forces also have stated that no civilians were killed in the battle, although there was evidence to show that the M.L.F. had committed murders of civilians during the course of their occupation of the city.

Enemy fighters who survived the battle and were not captured by Coalition forces retreated north towards the Shen army, which is battling to seize the highway intersections and bridges that lead to the city of Amden, the most important target for the Coalition's early campaign due to the city's location and population - nearly 120,000 people. Amden is expected to be the next site of major fighting for control of the first portion of the M.L.F. territory.

Meanwhile, Eirian, Shuellian, and Legionite forces are preparing for an assault on Masenma, along with contingents of Zamastanian troops that will be helping with the attack. General Reynolds said that the commanding officers of each geographical stage of the recapture of M.L.F. territory is resulting in a stranglehold and encompassing encirclement on the terrorists.

Z.I.S. Confirms "Irrefutably Clear Evidence" That M.L.F. Committed 1/2/20 Attacks
Intelligence Organization Is Leading Largest Ever Criminal Inquiry in Zamastanian History
Image
Above: Kirk Faulkman, Director of the Zamastanian Intelligence Service, releases new developments

The Zamastanian Intelligence Service has released a report detailing several accounts that confirm that the Malvarian Liberation Front "clearly and irrefutably committed the attacks of January 2nd, 2020". These new details, including Van'a Kamoni's own video admittance of the responsibility of the attacks, show the "irrefutably clear evidence" that the M.L.F. carried out the attacks.

The Z.S.I. is working with foreign intelligence communities in the nations effected by the attacks, and has confirmed the identities of dozens of the attackers who committed some of the suicide attacks. Not every individual terrorist has been identified, but they say that the obtained electronic intercepts, including telephone conversations and electronic bank transfers, has led to much of the identification thus far. The service also stated that they have pinpointed suspects, have arrested several of them, and are questioning people of suspicion.

Most key masterminds of the attack are believed to be in Kamoni's inner circle, located in Vulkaria and the target of current coalition operations. Evidence of this are the killings of Bryn Matteo and Dire Sulsi by Zamastanian and Xiomeran forces respectably. In addition, the terrorist suspects had entered their target countries the week prior to the attacks and were provided material for their attacks such as weaponry and explosives from operatives within those countries.

Director of the Z.I.S., Kirk Faulkman, confirmed these new developments in a press briefing. He said that within the next few weeks, classified details would be released to the public in regards of the Zamastanian aspects of the attacks, as well as the travel details and border entrance breaches they discovered for the terrorists who struck abroad. Individual countries are investigating the thorough extents of the attacks that occurred on their own soul. Legionas authorities are expected to release their findings of the attack on the Gran Verdosia Hotel and Casino in Verdesia.

Former-President Bishop Speaks in First Interview Since Vote-Of-No-Confidence
Former-President Blames Congressional Hall and Senate for Her Ouster, Talks About Vulkaria and Xiomera
Image
Above: Former-President Anya Bishop sitting down with comedian talk show host Brandon Oliver for an interview on "Late Night Conversing with Brandon Oliver"

Former President Anya Bishop made an appearance on Brandon Oliver's talk show, "Late Night Conversing with Brandon Oliver", where the comedian and President talked at length for nearly an hour on topics ranging from Bishop's ouster resulting from the Vote-of-no-Confidence, life after leaving office, and her take on world events.

Bishop, when asked about the vote that condemned her bilaterally in both houses of Congressional Hall, said that the Congress Chamber "used the Vote-of-No-Confidence as a political weapon," and that without it, she would "likely still be President today."

"But isn't that the point of the vote," Oliver asked, "to ensure that, no offense to you, the rules of civility are fulfilled?"

"Not in the way I saw it," Bishop responded, "I think that any reasonable person would have understood, in that instance, the reason for intervention. Destruction and injuries were widespread during the protests, and we had so much restraint for months on end. Foley Sakzi, as he was the Speaker at the time, used it as his own political gain. Plus, if there was going to be any impeaching of anyone, it should have been the commanders of the forces we sent out to counter the protesters for not handling the situation admirably."

"Wouldn't you say, though, that the response of the military on that day was dictated by the person who allowed them to go out to the protesters?" Oliver asked, to applause from the audience.

Oliver transitioned the conversation to the post-presidency, and the daily life of Bishop.

"My partner and I went on a holiday. I missed Marcus, we hadn’t kind of hung out. So we spent 10 days and had a wonderful time,” Bishop said. In September, Anya Bishop announced her pregnancy and relationship with Marcus Fraiser. The couple's baby is due in March. "The baby is going to be a whole new journey, one that I hadn't ever really grasped until we went public with our relationship."

"What does Marcus think about being a new dad?" asked Oliver.

"He's ecstatic! We both are. We're excited to shift over to parenthood and start this new stage of life."

Later in the interview, Oliver brought up the terror attacks of January 2nd, as well as the current coalition involvement in Vulkaria. Bishop offered her condolences to the victims of the attack, as well as her insight.

"First off, I want to say that I've had the people of Zamastan and the IDU on my mind all of these last several days. This kind of event is something I never wished to see during my time here on earth, and my heart pours out for all of you who have lost something or someone.

Listen, Brandon, the people who attacked us clearly are monsters and deserve nothing less than destruction. Like, I completely believe they deserve to be rooted out. However, I don't know if it's the wisest thing to do to send in troops to a region we haven't been able to fully leave in 40 years. I appreciate and salute the sacrifice our soldiers and armed forces give for us and our safety, but I do think we might have rushed it this time."

The former-President listed an aspect of her presidency that she took pride in regards to the conflict.

"One thing notable about my administration is that we never sent forces to fight abroad - we were the first administration since Elene Abotsford to avoid dragging our troops into a conflict not in our own borders."

The former-President also discussed the crisis surrounding the South Xiomera Sea that resolved mid-December but heightened fears of a conflict brewing in the east-Catican region. She discussed her own issues with the Xiomerans, as well as her experience witnessing a rare side of the regime.

"I had my own problems with Xiomera during my administration. We had to sanction them and push back on some of their rhetoric when the journalists sought asylum here, and the trade war was a result of their policies. Then again, they've shown rare spontaneity for compassion in times of crisis. For example, they offered support for us during the Coastal Valley quake. I believe, as I believe the Zamastanian people believe, that the Xiomerans are compassionate, loving, amazing people. The regime, however, we believe to be dangerous and prodding. We've had extremely tense history with them for our entire diplomatic history with them. That said, I think President Sakzi handled the situation well, all things considered. He avoided a war while still strong-arming them, and I think we came out on top even if a few condemnations came out of it."

Two Zamastanian troops were killed Wednesday after the vehicle they were riding in was hit by an improvised explosive device planted by the Malvarian Liberation Front in Northwestern Vulkaria, according to a Zamastan military statement reported by the Tofino Times. Three other soldiers were injured. The deaths on Wednesday brought the total Zamastanian casualty figures in Vulkaria as of the start of Coalition operations to nine. Seven soldiers were killed during the fighting to capture the city of Freeborn last week, and today's casualties occurred a mile west of Freeborn behind what has been considered enemy lines.

The vehicle was part of a convoy that was performing reconnaissance and delivering supplies to troops who are dug in on the front. The fighting in Vulkaria, with the exception of raids on enemy compounds and the recent fighting in Freeborn, has been relatively relaxed. However, the M.L.F. and affiliates like the V.N.A. and B.O.R.A. have staged near daily attacks on coalition forces.

The Armed Forces did not identify the service members who were killed, per Defense Department policy.

West Chanchajilla Dictator Denounces Coalition
Military dictator, Frederick Armbar, denounced Zamastanian-led coalition in Vulkaria
Image
Above: Frederick Armbar

The military dictator of the isolated nation of West Chanchajilla, Frederick Armbar, denounced the Zamastanian-led Coalition in Vulkaria, saying that the "devils of the world are desending upon innocents with guns and bombs in a charade for resources and political influence," and that the "Chanchajillan people should be wary of their (foreign) lies and propoganda no matter how they hear it." This comes as the coalition makes significant gains in Vulkaria against the M.L.F. and other insurgent groups.

Armbar came to power in 2005 when his mentor, President Parish White, passed away. He has ruled West Chanchajilla by decree since 2005 through powers granted to him by the ruling party legislature and military dictatorship. Armbar's administration has been deemed "responsible for grossly mismanaging the economy and plunging the country into a deep humanitarian crisis" and attempting to "crush the opposition by jailing or exiling critics, and using lethal force against anti-government protesters" by several nations, including most significantly East Chanchajilla and Zamastan. Armbar has been described as a "dictator", and a Zamastanian Intelligence Service report determined that crimes against humanity have been committed during his rule. Under Armbar's administration, more than 29,000 people have been executed for “resistance to authority” and more than 3 million Chanchajillans have been forced to flee the country.

No official rebuttal or statement on Armbar's denouncing has been released by the Zamastanian government or any other government involved in the coalition efforts, but the East Chanchajillan government released a statement calling for "Armbar's removal from power, as his own rhetoric is hypocritical and attempts to remove signature on his own crimes against humanity and his own people."

Amden Turns To Battleground As Zamastanian Forces Face Heavy Resistance
The major city west of Vulkar is the Zamastanian army's first solo-target in the fight against the M.L.F.

Zamastanian forces have begun and stalled their assault into Amden, as M.L.F. alligned fighters counter their attempts to seize the city of nearly 300,000 people. The city, which is deemed to be the most important crossroads point after Freeborn to securing routes deep into enemy territory, has been heavily fortified. Reports of heavy enemy fire came in all across the front of Zamastanian advances, and reports of casualties also came in from the advancing command.

Coalition forces split their routes after capturing Freeborn, with Shen and Maximusian forces traveling west and Zamastanian forces moving north to Amden. Along the highway, secured by Shen fighters, Zamastanians encountered roadside bombs and light insurgent ambush attacks.

President Sakzi reiterated support for the campaign, alongside Vulkarian President Farhen Brooks, who staunchly defended coalition efforts.

Amden is one of the largest cities in M.L.F. controlled Northwest Vulkaria

Amden Captured - "Preliminary Casualty Numbers Are High"
Coalition Commander, General Reynolds, Says Zamastanian Troops Suffered High Losses During Battle
Image
Above: Zamastanian troops operating in Amden, Vulkaria

The city of Amden has been captured by a joint force of Zamastanian and Vulkarian armies after a vicious eight-day battle that began on the 16th and ended today with the surrender of M.L.F. commanders in the last stronghold neighborhood of the city. General Reynolds, however, has confirmed that amidst the viciousness of the battle, Zamastanian and Vulkarian casualties were high.

"As of this announcement," the General of Coalition Forces stated in a press briefing in Vulkar, "we know that the casualty count is going to be high and staggering for the Zamastanian effort. We are confirming a high number of fatalities across the front of the city. As per military doctrine, we will not be releasing the names of soldiers killed or injured until the next of kin is notified and give permission for it to be released in reporting.

As of now, 57 Zamastanian soldiers have been killed in action in Amden, alongside several dozen more injured. Vulkarian army advances lost more than a hundred soldiers and many hundreds more injured during the course of this battle. We have addressed the families of the casualties, and again, will not be releasing names until the time has come for us to do so."

The Battle for Amden is destined to be the most deadly single incident of fighting for Zamastanian soldiers since the 1999-2005 War, as casualty numbers have not been finalized and are expected to climb slightly as the city is fully secured.

President Sakzi spoke following the news of the city's capture.

"I have followed the fighting alongside Generals operating directly with our troops. I want to congratulate our forces for a successful operation, though I do acknowledge the loss of life is regrettably high. My thoughts and prayers are with those families effected, and I have spoken with each and everyone of the direct family members effected. This is the hardest part of being President. I am so grateful to these soldiers who sacrificed everything to protect us from evil. God is with you, men and women of our Armed Forces."

Protests in opposition to the war flared earlier today for the first time since Coalition operations began, with protesters calling for an end to the war. Counter-protests in support of the military met the anti-war demonstrators in a mostly peaceful standoff. The total Zamastanian deaths in Vulkaria since operations began has reached 80 now that the casualties from Amden have been revealed.

"Minor Outbreak of Adenovirus AD14" in Jade Harbor, Says ZHHS
Zamastanian Officials Say a Man Who Came Back From Shuell Olympics Brought Sickness

A vaccine warning is underway in a suburb of Jade Harbor after officials announced that a strain of Adenovirus, known as AD14, has been transmitted through a man who came into contact with the virus in Shuell, most likely during his attendance at the Olympic Games. The man's name is not being revealed to the public or news outlets for his security and privacy.

The Shuellian Sub-Department of Disease Control stated yesterday that “the extent of this epidemic may be worse than initially expected.” The strain is believed to have originated in a small tourist town called Montstuhl, where it was reportedly spread fast among the populous. The recent Olympic games, as well as heavy trade and traffic in the area, has likely prompted the virus to spread faster, according to Zamastanian officials.

The virus is being closely monitored, and Zamastanian officials say that a preventative vaccine is being prepared. "No immediate health threat is facing the Zamastanian public at this time," Secretary of Health and Human Services, Aaron Newton said. "We would still advise caution and wiseness during this time of the exposure of the virus. Wash your hands, sanitize, be smart."

ZHHS Says 2 Patients of AD14 Have Died
Disease appears in Huntington Park

Health and Human Services have confirmed that two patients who were diagnosed with the AD14 Adenovirus strain have died in a hospital in Jade Harbor, on the same day that officials say the virus has appeared in "multiple clients" in Huntington Park, sparking fears of an epidemic. So far, officials have confirmed that a total of 15 people in Zamastan, including a Shuellian, have contracted AD14, but that there may be more people infected that are not accounted for. This has prompted concerns that the disease, which originated in a Shuellian coastal town, is spreading faster and is more deadly than anticipated. The first Zamastanian infected had attended the Shuell Olympics, and there is worry that the virus may be more widespread and not confined to just Zamastan and Shuell.

In the meantime, the fifteenth case of AD14 appeared in a Tofino home in a university student who had been in Shuell visiting friends. The man sought medical care after his return on January 30th, according to health officials, and he's been isolated since then. His few close contacts have been identified and are being monitored for symptoms.

The case poses no increased risk to other students on the university's campus, said Dr. Randaman Foni, medical director of the Tofino Public Health Commission, on a call with reporters on Saturday.

"He was very appropriate in seeking medical attention. He did not participate in any university activities from the time he arrived in Zamastan to his home," Foni said during the call.

The student is "doing quite well" and is quarantined at his home, which is not in a residence hall, Foni said. He is being monitored by public health nurses who call him regularly.

"We won't release him from isolation until we are satisfied it's safe to do so," said another doctor tending to the student.

Zamastanian Helicopter Shot Down South of Monza
Incident Occurs as Zamastanian Forces Advance on City

As Zamastanian forces capture village after village along the two main highways to the coastal city of Monza, they have faced increased resistance. A helicopter carrying troops for deployment along a front line position south of Monza was shot down on Wednesday, killing at least six soldiers. Enemy insurgents reportedly surrounded the downed aircraft as surviving soldiers fought back, defending their injured compatriots. Zamastanian reinforcements were able to punch a hole through to the wreckage and rescue the surviving soldiers.

This is the first instance of a coalition aircraft being shot down in the conflict, which has now been raging for a month. The shoot down was captured on camera by a M.L.F. affiliated fighter, and the group released a propaganda video showing the footage of the shoot-down alongside a gun battle. The video also plays reused footage of M.L.F. leader Van'a Kamoni vowing destruction on Vulkaria, Zamastan, Legionas, and other coalition nations. The helicopter was en route from the city of Freeborn to the frontlines south of Monza to deliver troop reinforcements when it went down. Zamastanian officials originally reported that a technical problem cause the crash, but quickly corrected their statement once the surviving soldiers were rescued.

TOFINO WHITECAPS WIN TEAL CUP 29-17
Whitecaps beat the Alberni Predators in Thursday's Championship Game
Image
Above: Tofino Whitecaps players celebrate after a touchdown solidifies their team's lead in the Teal Cup Championship Game against the Alberni Predators

In a thrilling game that served as not only an exciting moment for sports fans across Zamastan, but as a resolute sign of the unity of Zamastan in some of its most difficult days in modern history, the Tofino Whitecaps beat the Alberni Predators 29-17 to win the Teal Cup, the Zamastan Football League's championship game.

The Predators won the coin toss and elected to receive. For the first time in Teal Cup history, the game was played in the rain, which was continuous throughout the game.

The rain did not hinder Predators' return man Devin Hester, who ran back the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown to give Alberni the then earliest lead in Teal Cup history, after only 14 seconds. The Whitecaps avoided kicking to Hester for the rest of the game, allowing him only one punt return, and choosing to squib kick whenever Hester was in the deep kickoff return position.

On Tofino's first drive of the game, defensive back Chris Harris intercepted a deep, third-down pass from quarterback Erik Manning and returned it 6 yards to the Predators' 35-yard line. However, Alberni could not gain a first down on their ensuing possession and they were forced to punt. After several short runs and passes, Manning beat the Alberni defense with a 53-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Reggie Wayne, cutting the Predators' lead to 7–6. The touchdown occurred because of a mental error on the Predators' secondary. Cornerback Charles Tillman passed Reggie Wayne onto safety Danieal Manning. However, Manning chose to follow tight end Ben Utecht over the middle, leaving Wayne all alone. The score remained the same, at 7–6, after punter/holder Hunter Smith fumbled the snap on the point-after-touchdown (PAT) attempt. On the ensuing kickoff, Alberni tight end Gabe Reid fumbled Markus Vinatieri's bouncing kickoff while being tackled by Robert Mathis; Whitecaps linebacker Tyjuan Hagler recovered the loose ball. However, on the next play, Indianapolis gave the ball back when running back Joseph Addai fumbled the hand-off and Predators defensive end Mark Anderson recovered it.

On the first play after the turnover, Thomas Jones's 52-yard run moved the ball to the Whitecaps' 5-yard line. Three plays later, Rex Grossman threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to receiver Muhsin Muhammad, giving the Predators a 14–6 lead. After forcing an Tofino punt, Alberni lost another turnover when Cedric Benson's fumble was recovered by Whitecaps defensive end Dwight Freeney on the Predators' 43-yard line. Tofino subsequently advanced to the 36-yard line, but decided to punt rather than risk a 53-yard field goal attempt.

In the Second quarter, following a Alberni punt, Tofino drove 47 yards and scored with Vinatieri's 29-yard field goal to make the score 14–9. Alberni was forced to punt again on their next drive, and return man Terrence Wilkins returned the ball 12 yards to his own 42-yard line. Manning started out the drive with a 22-yard completion to Marvin Harrison. His next pass went to tight end Dallas Clark for 17 yards. Two more completions moved the ball to the Predators' 11-yard line, and then Dominic Rhodes took the ball to the end zone with three consecutive carries, the last one a 1-yard touchdown run to give his team a 16–14 lead with 6:09 left in the second quarter.

After another Alberni punt, the Whitecaps advanced to the Predators' 36-yard line before Tillman ended the drive by forcing and recovering a fumble from tight end Bryan Fletcher. But on the next play, Grossman fumbled a snap, and Whitecaps defensive lineman Raheem Brock recovered the ball. Manning then led the Whitecaps to Alberni's 17-yard line. With two seconds left, Vinatieri attempted a 36-yard field goal, but his kick sailed wide left, and the score remained 16–14 at halftime.

Third quarter.

Wilkins returned the second half kickoff 26 yards to the Whitecaps 38-yard line. On the ensuing possession, Addai rushed five times for 25 yards and caught four passes for 19 yards as the Whitecaps drove 56 yards in 13 plays and scored with a 29-yard field goal from Vinatieri, increasing their lead to 19–14. On the Predators' next drive, Jones started out with a 14-yard run, and then Muhammad caught a 9-yard pass, bringing up second down and one on the Whitecaps' 45-yard line. But on the next play, Grossman was sacked for an 11-yard loss by Anthony McFarland. Then, on third down, he fumbled the snap. Grossman recovered the fumble himself, but the Predators were forced to punt, and Wilkins returned the ball 12 yards to the Whitecaps' 36-yard line. Rhodes then gained 52 yards on four carries, with a face-mask penalty adding another 10. Alberni managed to halt the drive at their own 2-yard line, but Vinatieri kicked his third field goal to make the score 22–14.

Alberni tight end John Gilmore picked up Vinatieri's bouncing kickoff and returned it 9-yards to his own 45-yard line, with an unnecessary roughness penalty on Mathis adding another 15 yards and giving the Bears a first down on the Whitecaps' 40-yard line. Alberni could only gain 14 yards on their ensuing possession, but it was enough for Robbie Gould to make a 44-yard field goal, cutting the score to 22–17.

Fourth quarter.

After an Tofino 7-play drive ended in a punt, Alberni started on their own 20-yard line with 13:38 left in the game. But four plays later, Whitecaps defensive back Kelvin Hayden intercepted a pass intended for Muhammad and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown.

From that point on, the Whitecaps took over the game. Four plays after the ensuing kickoff, Whitecaps defensive back Bob Sanders intercepted Grossman's pass and returned it 38 yards to the Predators 41-yard line. Alberni's defense eventually forced a punt, but Smith's 32-yard kick pinned the Predators back at their own 8-yard line. The Predators drove to their own 47, but on a fourth down conversion attempt, tight end Desmond Clark dropped a potential first down reception after being leveled by defensive back Matt Giordano. The Whitecaps subsequently called eight consecutive Dominic Rhodes runs before turning the ball over on downs themselves, leaving only 1:42 remaining in regulation. Five plays later, the game was over.

6 KILLED AS EXPLOSION RIPS THROUGH JADE HARBOR POLICE STATION
NO ORGANIZATION HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY, THOUGH M.L.F. IS SUSPECTED

An explosion ripped through a police precinct located at a busy intersection and memorial site in downtown Jade Harbor on Tuesday morning, killing at least 6 people and injuring dozens, in a stunning attack that has put Zamastan's terror watch level back to its highest and leaving questions as to who committed the atrocity, as no organization has yet claimed responsibility. It is widely suspected that the Malvarian Liberation Front is responsible for the attack, though they have not claimed responsibility for it.

The blast occurred during rush hour near the commercial port district of Jade Harbor's downtown area, at the crossroads intersection of Pelion Memorial Drive. Security footage captured the explosion, which came from a parked and apparently abandoned vehicle next to the Thomas Pelion Memorial Statue, which sits in front of the police station.

The attack comes as coalition forces make major gains against the terrorist group in Vulkaria, a month and a week after the terror group committed the devastating attacks of January 2nd. The attack hit just outside of a police precinct station located on the intersection, and many of the deceased are believed to be police officers. The terror warning level in Zamastan had been lowered to 3/5 on February 1st, after it had been elevated to 5 following the January 2nd attacks which killed 125 people in Tofino and Providence.

Tuesday's attack is the first terror attack to hit any of the coalition-involved nations since the operations in Vulkaria began on January 4th, and it has already heightened fears of possible lone-wolf attacks

Legionas Prime Minister Moretti in Tofino to meet with President Sakzi
The two leaders met on issues surrounding the military involvement in Vulkaria

Prime Minister Nicholas Moretti of Legionas was in Tofino on Saturday to meet with President Foley Sakzi surrounding ongoing and escalating military involvement in Vulkaria. The two conversed at the Zian Presidential Mansion. The meeting comes as Zamastan and her allies make dramatic territorial gains against the M.L.F. but face rising casualties and a worry of dispersing and thinning enemy forces across the heavily forested region of Northwest Vulkaria. Legionas forces have been focusing most of their efforts with Shuellian and Eirian forces in the western section of the region, which is a much rockier and mountainous region compared to the more flat, wooded eastern battle-zone familiar to the remainder of coalition forces.

Legionas, and subsequently Moretti, have both experienced war in Vulkaria before. Legionas was one of the first nations to join the coalition following the attacks of January 2nd, and they were also Zamastan's primary ally in the 2nd War in Vulkaria (1999-2005), where they lost thousands of soldiers and fought in some of the most vicious encounters of the war.

BREAKING NEWS
ATTEMPTED COUP DERAILED BY WEST CHANCHAJILLAN REGIME
GOVERNMENT SAYS A COUP ATTEMPTED TO OVERTHROW ARMBAR REGIME. ALLEGED PERPETRATORS ARRESTED AND EXTENSIVE MANHUNTS UNDERWAY
Image
Above: Protesters in Ivora scramble around a military vehicle amid reports that a coup is underway in West Chanchajilla

West Chanchajilla's dictatorial socialist government said Sunday it had derailed a coup bid, claiming that Zamastan, East Chanchajilla, and Quetana colluded in a military plot to assassinate President Frederick Armbar. According to military officials and statements coming from state media, there were "several instances of violent and sporadic fighting between terrorists and military personel at key government sites across the nation," and that "President Armbar was the target of an assassination attempt." Armbar, the nation's 15-year long military dictator, has not spoken since the news of the coup broke this evening, but his highest staff has claimed, without specifying evidence, that Zamastan, East Chanchajilla, and Quetana are backing the perpetrators. They also confirmed that several hundred suspected perpetrators have been arrested and that massive purge manhunts are underway

Online amid the flurry of underground social media coming out of the closed and isolated country, supposed leaders of resistance movements claimed that a coup d'état was attempted in West Chanchajilla against state institutions, including the government and President Frederick Armbar. The attempt was carried out by a faction within the West Chanchajillan Armed Forces that organized themselves to seize control of several key places in Ivora, Iuani, Aboutal, and elsewhere, but failed to do so after forces loyal to the state defeated them. The alleged perpetrators cited the nation's "history of erosion and a complete elimination of democratic rule, disregard for human rights, and a loss of credibility in the international arena as reasons for the coup", according to a statement posted by resistance members living in asylum in both East Chanchajilla and Quetana.

There are several known resistance movements against the military regime in West Chanchajilla, and while some have received funding and support from the East in past conflicts, (such as the Turania Offensive of 2019), there is no known evidence that Zamastan or Quetana support the insurgent forces. However, Presidents Castovia Sr., Jr., Bishop, and Sakzi, have all called for Armbar's removal from power and have stated that Zamastan supports the East over the West, as well as a reestablishment of democracy within the country.

Zamastanian defense officials have also downplayed and denied any Zamastanian involvement in the attempted coup, stating that their efforts are more suited towards "other pressing issues such as the conflict in Vulkaria and the tensions with Gladysynthia," though the department's position is still that "Armbar's regime poses a serious threat to human rights and safety in West-Central Catica."

Foreign reporters connected with The Tofino Times through contracts, as well as underground social media leaks, reported tanks and military jets in the capital of Ivora and the mobilization of military personnel. Protesters could be seen in mass on live-streams, chanting anti-government and anti-Armbar slogans and facing off against military blockades.

DOZENS EXECUTED ON WEST CHANCHAJILLAN STATE TELEVISION FOLLOWING COUP
President Frederick Armbar was Present for the Executions and Berated the East, Zamastanian, and Quetanan Governments

Dozens of people were executed in the West Chanchajillan capital of Ivora on Tuesday in a stunning and horrific broadcast that was channeled live on West Chanchajillan television stations. West Chanchajillan dictator Frederick Armbar spoke against the accused perpetrators who he claims were responsible for the coup with backing from East Chanchajillan, Zamastanian, and Quetanan sources. The dictator then gave a command for the accused perpetrators to be brought out into the square in front of his palace and government offices, where for the next hour and a half, 57 people were executed live on state-run television. The methods of executions were varied, alternating between firing squads and hangings.

President Foley Sakzi condemned the executions and once again called for Frederick Armbar's resignation and removal from power, while maintaining that the Zamastanian government had no role in the coup. East Chanchajillan President Gideon Boer also condemned the executions, while at the same time denying involvement but stating support for the coup.

"We thrive for the day that we see the oppressive Western regime to fall," said Boer, "and today's show of horrific and wanton murder is another example of the oppressive evil perpetrated each and every day by Armbar and his minions."

Quentanan President António Brafeo also denied involvement, declaring additional sanctions on their maritime neighbor.

Protests erupted across West Chanchajilla following the aftermath of the coup attempt, and as the executions were broadcast, protests turned violent in some cities. According to leaked Zamastanian state department memos, there are fears that the protests will boil into more violence and armed rebellion which will turn Armbar's anger towards his citizens to even more dramatic responses. There are also concerns about more executions.

Tuesday's mass execution is the first broadcast execution fro West Chanchajilla since 1995 when assassins failed to kill the country's then-dictator Parish White.

Congressional Hall Passes Sweeping Sanctions on West Chanchajilla
President Sakzi and Speaker Maxwell Approved Sanctions

Congressional Hall passed sweeping sanctions to be instated immediately against West Chanchajilla and the government of dictator Frederick Armbar following a failed coup and mass executions of dozens of accused perpetrators by regime forces. President Foley Sakzi was present as Speaker of the Chamber Larious Maxwell signed the official documentation, a move which experts say is the first time a sitting President has been present during legislative signing of sanctions against a foreign nation.

The sanctions target West Chanchajillan oil, mineral, and agricultural products, and they also prohibit a large majority of humanitarian aid entering the country via Zamastanian aid organizations and government supply lines.

"We urge you to immediately and forcefully impose sanctions on the government of the People's Republic of Chanchajilla, any West Chanchajillan actors determined to be responsible for such vile crimes against humanity, and those acting on their behalf or providing material or financial support for these horrendous acts," wrote Congressional lawmakers before the vote. The sanctions passed with a sweeping 497-3 vote, making a clear statement against the Armbar regime.

"Threat is quickly evaporating," says General Reynolds
Massive Strides have been made against M.L.F. forces in past three weeks, says Coalition General
Image
Above: Zamastanian Troops position outside Monza

General Avery Reynolds of the Zamastanian Armed Forces and currently serving as the Commander of Coalition Forces said that "major strides have been made against the M.L.F." in the past three weeks, after fears of a stalled campaign had leaked to the public. The General spoke at length to reporters about the capture of large territories throughout northwest Vulkaria, including the cities of Monza, Werrnia, and Casuum. More than "60% of the conflict zone is now under direct Coalition control," said the General, "and we're ahead of our scheduled and projected advances at this point in the conflict."

Despite the good news strategically from the General, sentiment towards the conflict has soured in recent months. 114 Zamastanian troops have been killed since hostilities began on January 4th, with more than 500 injured. An additional 300 coalition soldiers spanning the member nations have also been killed, with thousands injured. In addition, over 800 Vulkarian soldiers have been killed. Most of the sentiment against the war began after the massive casualty counts that stemmed after the Battle of Amden on January 24th. However, public opinion in the war still approves of military intervention, with more than 70% in agreement that the conflict was necessary following the 1/2/20 Terror Attacks.

"The threat is quickly evaporating," General Reynolds said in Vulkar, "and we have killed approximately 10,000 enemy combatants across all battlefields in Vulkaria in the past month and a half of fighting. We are winning in every aspect."

The General also responded to a question from a Tofino Times reporter on the whereabouts of key terrorist leadership such as Van'a Kamoni.

"We can't talk publicly about our intelligence at the time, but we have already punctured massive holes in their leadership structure. It's only a matter of time until they're completely dismantled."

Top West Chanchajillan General Found Murdered In Rio Palito Hotel Room
General Derick'a Baana was found unresponsive in a San Beausoleil casino-hotel room

Above: The room where General Derick'a Baana was found murdered.

General Derick'a Baana of the People's Republic of Chanchajilla was found dead in his hotel room in a popular San Beausoleil casino on Thursday, murdered within five hours of arriving in the country, the San Beausoleil Police said.

Initial forensic reports indicate that Baana, a top West Chanchajillan general, was paralyzed with an electric shock before being suffocated. Other potential causes of death, including poison, are also being examined. It is unknown who may have committed the murder, but it is believed that multiple killers were involved. Baana's body apparently had signs of torture.

Baana had been in Rio Palito since Tuesday morning, following an attempted coup in West Chanchajilla and mounting tensions in the surrounding countries. Baana used his real passport to enter Rio Palito, according to state officials, even though he owned several others with aliases.

He was in the country for several days of official West Chanchajillan government business; the Armbar regime declined to be more specific about the purpose of his visit.

West Chanchajilla also said Baana was travelling without his usual contingent of bodyguards.

Police said that they had suspects, but would not name them and would not say how many suspects they had identified. However, they indicated that they believed the perpetrators arrived in the country using passports from surrounding countries. The authenticity of the documents has not been confirmed.

“Most likely the passports are authentic, as they had passed through several countries, and if they were fake they would have been discovered,” a Rio Palitan source said.

Baana, 50, was a founder of West Chanchajilla's covert military wing, the Aboutal Brigades. He was wanted by the East Chanchajillan government in connection with the killings of two Chanchajillan officers in 1989, as well as by Zamastan for the kidnapping of a Zamastanian soldier on vacation in East Chanchajilla in 1990.

West Chanchajilla has not accused anyone of the assassination.

The involvement of the East Chanchajillan government has not been ruled out by San Beausoleil Police, although officials said that currently they were only investigating individuals.

“It is only logical to expect [East Chanchajilla] to stand behind the murder, but we are not sure that they have carried out the crime,” a source said.

Police have said they would not co-operate with the West Chanchajillan military on the investigation, and would deal only with the foreign diplomatic branch of the government

“Because [Baana] is a West Chanchajillan national and was in Rio Palito, the embassy is authorized to follow up on his case,” a source said. “We have confidence in the Rio Palitan authorities and are sure the investigation will find the truth and we are ready to co-ordinate and support them with whatever they ask us.”

Both East Chanchajillan and Zamastanian authorities denied to comment on the developments

Armbar Blames Zamastanian Agents for General's Death
General Derick'a Baana was found unresponsive in a San Beausoleil casino-hotel room

West Chanchajillan dictator Frederick Armbar has accused Zamastanian agents in the assassination of a top-General, Derick'a Baana, on Thursday after the general was found murdered in his Rio Palito hotel room.

General Baana was found dead in his hotel room in the famed San Beausoleil Pari Diamond Casino, where investigators say that he was strangled, electrocuted, and now they say that he was also drugged, according to toxicology reports and needle bruising discovered on his body. Armbar suggested in a ravenous and erratic speech on Thursday that Baana, one of his most trusted military commanders and the creator of West Chanchajilla's intelligence branch, was murdered by agents working for the Zamastanian Intelligence Service.

"The Zamastanians stop at nothing to dismantle our strides," Armbar said, "and they are no doubt the masterminds of Baana's death. Death to Zamastan will follow suite and justice will be done to the devils of Z.I.S.. Foley Sakzi, who is also a devil, will burn for his crimes of murder."

The Zamastanian government denied playing a role in the killing, but they confirmed that the Z.I.S. had been conducting extensive surveillance on the late General.

"Zamastan has consistently had it's eye on Baana," said Kirk Faulkman, Director of the Zamastanian Intelligence Service, "he and West Chanchajillan military sources have consistently plotted attacks and operations against Zamastanian persons. They've kidnapped multiple of our citizens, killed several of our soldiers, and often threatened our allies with war. They've slaughtered hundreds, committed crimes against humanity, and so much of it spawns from Baana's hands. We are not responsible, but we are not upset with these developments."

"WE COMPLETED THE MISSION" SAYS DIRECTOR FAULKMAN
Z.I.S. Director Admits Responsibility for General's Assassination, Says Agents Committed the Killing. Baana reportedly supported and harbored terrorists responsible for the 1/2/20 Terror Attacks
Image
Above: Director Faulkman announces the assassination of General Derick'a Baana

"We completed the mission," said Zamastanian Intelligence Services Director Kirk Faulkman to a stunned press room as the Chief intelligence officer of Zamastan admitted in excessive details that Zamastanian agents assassinated top West Chanchajillan general Derick'a Baana.

After having originally denied accusations by West Chanchajillan dictator Frederick Armbar that Zamastan was responsible, Faulkman said that President Foley Sakzi had approved and ordered the assassination, believed to be the first assassination of a foreign government figure by Zamastanian agents made known publicly since the mid 1970s.

The Zamastanian government, while originally denying playing a role in the killing, confirmed that the Z.I.S. had been conducting extensive surveillance on the late General.

"Zamastan has consistently had it's eye on Baana," said Faulkman, "he and West Chanchajillan military sources have consistently plotted attacks and operations against Zamastanian persons. They've kidnapped multiple of our citizens, killed several of our soldiers, and often threatened our allies with war. They've slaughtered hundreds, committed crimes against humanity, and so much of it spawns from Baana's hands. We are not responsible, but we are not upset with these developments."

Friday's surprise and shocking announcement comes after General Baana had been found murdered in his Rio Palito hotel room on Thursday, paralyzed with an electric shock before being suffocated.

"We have been planning for scenarios for Baana's elimination since the kidnapping and killing of Captain Federera," Faulkman said, referencing the kidnapping and eventual murder of Zamastanian Army Captain Michael M. Federera while he was on vacation in East Chanchajilla in 1990. "Our intelligence accelerated," Faulkman continued, "once he ordered the execution of dissidents this past week following a failed coup without trial or evidence. Baana has provided weapons and explosives to terror organizations, has propped up terror cells across the region, and as we discovered in our most recent investigations, supported the M.L.F. terrorists on January 2nd."

This new spurge of information came as the Z.I.S. published new findings showing that at least 16 of the 20 terrorists who committed terror attacks in Zamastan on January 2nd, 2020, were harbored by Baana's forces in West Chanchajilla and had illegally entered Zamastan on doctored passports. There is also evidence that other terrorists who struck in Legionas, Gardavasque, Xiomera, and Eiria had been either trained or harbored, if not both, in West Chanchajilla. Explosives used in the ferry bombing in Gardavasque and the Verdesia hotel attack in Legionas were also manufactured in West Chanchajilla. There were also fears that Baana was supplying and hosting more terror suspects for future attacks in Zamastan and Legionas, and that the recent bombing in Jade Harbor that killed 6 people was a West Chanchajillan cell of the Vulkarian-connected M.L.F.

Another page in the report detailed apparent secretive meetings, both personal and digital, between General Baana and M.L.F. terrorist leader Van'a Kamoni, who was the mastermind behind the 1/2/20 Attacks and the key-wanted figure of Coalition operations in Vulkaria.

"We are committed to the protection of our citizens and the citizens of our allies," Faulkman said, "and we will always fight against the forces of evil. The blood of thousands were on his hands, and now he is gone."
