Climate Conference 2020 Sign-ups

Post by Lauchenoiria » Mon Jun 22, 2020 6:08 pm

An international conference dedicated to discussing solutions to climate change will take place in Lauchenoiria in August 2020. The conference will last two weeks, from the 3rd to the 21st August. It will take place in the western Lauchenoirian city of Elopolis. Delegates will be hosted in dedicated hotels in the city and the conference will take place at the Elopolis Exhibition and Conference Centre which has been refurbished in recent years.

A number of topics relating to climate change will be discussed, including:
- Emissions targets
- Carbon capture options
- A potential carbon tax

Delegations from all nations in the IDU are warmly invited to attend this conference. Climate Alliance Lauchenoiria will also be inviting international climate groups to send activists to stage demonstrations during the conference and make sure the government is taking the issue seriously. If your nation has activist groups who would want to attend, there is a section for that on the form. If not, you can leave that part of the form blank.

Delegations should note that Elopolis will be very hot at that time of year - an invitation to consider the ramifications of climate change, if you will. Delegations should also note that smoking is still illegal in Lauchenoiria: we won't have a repeat of last time.

There is no limit on the number of puppets, but bear in mind that playing too many puppets at once can be time consuming.

Those who wish to attend are invited to fill out the following form:

The homeowners of Maraix are very concerned about climate change and welcome any opportunity to discuss solutions to this pressing problem with other nations. We applaud the organizers of this conference and look forward to visiting Elopolis to participate.

Nation Name: Maraix
Puppet (Y/N): N
Government type: Direct Deliberative Democracy
Head of government: President Karen Kreider
Name of main delegate(s): Secretary April Mills-Orliff
No. of delegates attending: 3
No. of security personnel attending: 0
Priorities for discussion topics: Emissions targets, carbon capture options
Name of climate activist groups: Artist Junior Martin (who specializes in video and performance art) has stated he would like to appear at the conference to “shine a light on the embodied experiences of those suffering from the impacts of global climate apathy.”
Power generation by energy source (%): Distillate (diesel) fuel oil – 65%, Solar – 35%
Average CO2 emissions per capita: 4.8 t/year (estimated)
Existing climate pledges: None
Any further information: Maraix is a tiny, remote island nation located in the Tenebric Ocean, with a resident population of only 109 people. The nation, comprising three small islands (1 volcanic island, 1 coral atoll, and 1 raised coral island), is witnessing first-hand the impacts of climate change and globalized pollution, and seeks to build relationships with other small, island, and/or developing countries in the IDU aiming to mitigate these problems. Beyond the keynote conference agenda, the delegates from Maraix are also interested in participating in any conference track or panel discussions focusing on the special needs of such countries.

Nation Name: Democractic Republic of Eiria
Puppet (Y/N): N
Government type: Unicameral Representative Democracy
Head of government: Chancellor William Lancaster
Name of main delegate(s): Alice Lancaster(Minister of Diplomacy), Zachary Castela
No. of delegates attending: 2 Head Delegates, Four Aides
No. of security personnel attending: 10 Solar Guards
Priorities for discussion topics: Renewable Energy options, Emission Targets
Name of climate activist groups: Mainly the Confederation of Eirian Environmentalists, or CEE
Power generation by energy source (%): 21% Hydroelectric, 28% Nuclear, 32% Natural Gas, 7% Wind, 5% Coal, 3% Wind, 2% Geothermal, 2% Other(Oil, Geothermal, etc).
Average CO2 emissions per capita: 6.8 T/year
Existing climate pledges Some domestic promises to increase renewable energy production and to reduce Emissions, but no official international ones.
Any further information: The Eirian government has already made extensive reforms in the past when it came to renewable power production, and Eiria has many sources of Hydroelectric power, so that was easier than other nations. Eiria also doesn't have as many coal deposits as other nations, so Eiria wasn't too dependent on coal to begin with. The Liberal Eclipse party in power has made several commitments to environmentalist groups, so they want to use this conference to fulfil these promises.

Nation Name: People's Democratic Republic of Milintica
Puppet (Y/N): Y
Government type: Unicameral Representative Democracy
Head of government: President Matōchmizalo
Name of main delegate(s): Piki Herangi, Minister of the Environment; Kahutea Tahana, Green Party of Milintica representative from Utlamec and chairwoman of the GPM Environmental Committee
No. of delegates attending: 2 delegates, 2 aides
No. of security personnel attending: 4 officers with the Milintican National Police Corps, Directorate of National Security
Priorities for discussion topics: Renewable energy, emissions, sea rise
Name of climate activist groups: Green Party of Milintica, Guardians of the Sea, Island Protectors
Power generation by energy source (%): 76% fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas); 10% wind; 8% solar; 6% hydroelectric
Average CO2 emissions per capita: 17.66 million Mt
Existing climate pledges: 2018 Plan for a Green Future, the Milintican government's commitment to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, implement eco-friendly and sustainable development policies, and reverse environmental degradation of Milintican seas and land; the plan's goals have yet to be met due to a lack of resources and funding available to the Milintican government
Any further information: Milintica is highly interested in both obtaining help to meet its own ambitious environmental goals, and in working with developing and developed nations alike to mitigate the effects of climate change. As a relatively small chain of islands affected by sea rise, the Milinticans are also extremely concerned about sea levels and the effect developed nations' economies are having on nations such as Milintica which are poorly able to deal with the resulting effects.

Nation Name: The Huenyan Empire of Xiomera
Puppet (Y/N): N
Government type: autocracy
Head of government: Emperor Xochiuhue
Name of main delegate(s): Xōclo, Secretary of Infrastructure, Development and Planning
No. of delegates attending: 1 delegate, 3 "aides", 3 "advisors" (lobbyists)
No. of security personnel attending: 8 ASI agents (the "aides" may also, in truth, be agents)
Priorities for discussion topics: Ensuring that any proposed accord does not hinder trade or commerce; promoting an economy-first position on the environment
Name of climate activist groups: none (while some people are currently fighting the Xiomeran government's environmental policies, formal groups are banned)
Power generation by energy source (%): 58% fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, coal); 31% nuclear; 5% solar; 4% wind; 2% hydroelectric
Average CO2 emissions per capita: 778.4 million Mt
Existing climate pledges: none
Any further information: The Xiomeran delegation can be expected to lobby hard against any measures it sees as overly restrictive, using a combination of financial and trade inducements for nations it can't pressure, and power plays against those nations it can pressure (or some combination of both). Their goal is ultimately to prevent a sweeping environmental accord that harms Xiomera, or to hamstring any agreement that may be reached as much as possible.

Nation Name: Kerlile
Puppet (Y/N): Y
Government type: Matriarchal autocratic oligarchy
Head of government: President Rebecca Arnott
Name of main delegate(s): Councillor Electra Georgiou, Foreign Secretary Katrine Porter, Environment Secretary Mina Agresta
No. of delegates attending: 3 delegates, 9 aides
No. of security personnel attending: 6
Priorities for discussion topics: affordable renewable energy sources, climate justice (ensuring those responsible most for pollution pay the most to fix it, making sure that those most disproportionately affected by climate change are cared about), reforestation
Name of climate activist groups: Kerlian Climate Campaign
Power generation by energy source (%): 47% nuclear, 32% renewables (19% wind, 9% solar, 4% hydroelectric ), 21% fossil fuels (15% coal, 3% oil)
Average CO2 emissions per capita: 6.7 T/year
Existing climate pledges: No international pledges, a document called the Council Plan for the Climate commits Kerlile to increasing the amount of energy provided to the civilian sector by renewables, and to reforestation efforts
Any further information: President Joanna Greenwood, Arnott's predecessor, liked to support environmental policies to make herself look better on the international stage, so climate policy in Kerlile is more advanced than one would think for a generally uncooperative autocratic state.

(All of the above agreements above are domestic)

Any further information: The goal of the Legionite Delegation is to achieve a sweeping environmental accord which would bind all signatories to strictly follow the agreed upon regulations.
