The Tariel Heights is a geographical area of Zamastan's Northern Isle which straddles the Danaska River and borders Gladysynthia. The Heights cover an area spanning about 1,800 square kilometers (690 sq mi), with gradual inclines and hills. It provides a natural barrier between the river and the city of Lower Tariel. There are two small towns in the Heights; Kara Ben and Porra. There are sites indicating human settlement dating back nearly 6,000 years, mainly ancient Åethnoa tribes.

The area is historically a place of conflict between Gladysynthia and Zamastan. In the 1945 Danaska Conflict, Zamastanian forces captured the heights from Gladysynthia, who had claimed land holdings over the region during their independence. In The Tariel War, the Gladysynthian forces retook the area temporarily, though ultimately it was recaptured by Zamastan.
